Works for Me Wednesday, Inaugural Run

Shannon started the Works for Me Wednesday idea and I've enjoyed reading tips from other women. (Though, I must confess I become overwhelmed with tips quickly and can't read very many in one sitting.)

My tip for the day involves a cheap, odor-friendly, and environmentally-healthy way of cleaning your tub: I use dollar shampoos to do the job. Shampoo is designed to strip grease from your hair -- and it does the exact same thing in your bathtub. Go ahead and give it a whirl. It will leave your bathroom smelling nice and your tub looking sparkly clean.

I've been getting a kick out of reading the labels on my shampoo bottles, especially the one that insinuates I can escape reality by sudsing my hair follicles. Here's a little quiz for the rest of you. By the info on the back of the bottle, can you identify which shampoo is 1) the cheap, tub-cleaning one? 2) the moderately priced one? and 3) the expensive, purchased-while-on-sale one?

a. "Thoroughly cleans, while adding volume and fullness. Leaves hair noticeably softer, smoother and more naturally vibrant."

b. "Come clean. A rich, creamy lather takes shine and softness over the edge. Escape reality, experience the fragrance. Become a Moisture Maniac. Indulge your craving for brilliant hair."

I'm torn between b and c, because I think I know which products they are, but not how much they cost! So here goes:

And I've actually scanned some of those WFMW tips, and used the one about putting charcoal in the car--it totally worked! Now if only some college-aged boys would put charcoal in the bottom of their clothes hamper ...

I'm loving the tips and get easily overwhelmed with them, too.

I use baking soda and my bare hands to scrub the tub. I may have to start using cheap-o shampoo when it doesn't need to be scrub-scrubbed.

I actually dicovered this one time, when my son's shampoo bottle fell over and spilled. When I wiped it up, I noticed my the tub was becoming clean with little effort on my part. I now use shampoo to lcean the tub all the time. This truly is a fantastic tip. As for the quiz..

A - cheap
B - expensive
C - middle one

I think b. is the expensive one. I figure they had to pay a professional writer to come up with that temptation-inducing verbiage. And a. is the mid-priced one, so c. is the cheap-o?

i've also noticed the ridiculous 'clean zone' of the tub where i spilled shampoo, too. my question is this: if my porcelain tub (the old claw foot variety) is scratched, what are my options for filling the scratches and dings to make it look a little nicer? thanks.

Oh, good idea. I can't keep up with all the tips either. Last week I was in Illinois and I meant to go back and read them all, but with finals and traveling once, then getting ready to travel again, I never did. Now I'm in Oklahoma and still haven't had time to go back over last week's list or this week's.

Maybe someday...

Huh! I'll have to remember this for when I finally have my *own* household and thus make my own household decisions. :o)

My first instinct was that 1 is c, 2 is a, and 3 is b, though upon reflection I could easily believe a & b being switched.

Answer time:

1) C - Suave, purchased for around $1.00
2) A - Dove, middle ground w/ succinct label
3) B - Bed Head Tigi, the most expensive of the 3

And Andrew, I have no idea how to remove scratches from a tub. Anyone else know how to do this?

I had to re-write the quiz answers like four times -- sorry I made it so stinkin' confusing. No, B, you aren't a MM, but it looks like your hair is noticeably smoother and more naturally vibrant. (Sure beats the heck out of those green hair days of old! Heh.)
