Drink Deeply

How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God!
Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings,
They are abundantly satisfied with the fullness of Your house,
And You give them drink from the river of Your pleasures.
For with You is the fountain of life;
In Your light we see light. (Ps 36:7-9)

i love the fact that i get to drink from the river of pleasures. sometimes this is hard to remember. the past two years have been particularly tough and i’ve found that my plan is not actually God’s timing (in regards to having a baby). but when my eyes are lifted to see His glory, then can i be satisfied with the fullness of His house and fill my belly with refreshments from His river of pleasures. these words are indeed sweet, and came to me at a time when i truly needed them.

thanks so much for sharing that, rebecca. that’s a beautiful piece of scripture, and a good one to keep in mind.

tgif. in light of it being friday, i’m breaking my no-blogging-while-at-work rule.

sarah, when i saw two comments i KNEW you had written something. sometimes i feel like we’re really on the same wavelength… second-borns unite! : )

  4. sarah Feb 20, 2004 11:39 PM

yay for the second-borns! “first is worst, second is best,…”
(karen can join the chant, since she is also second in line)

  5. lindsay Feb 21, 2004 3:56 PM

    whatever…

  6. Karen Feb 21, 2004 5:07 PM

I’m here now…joining in the chant. Lindsay is bitter, pay no attention to her.

  7. sarah Feb 21, 2004 8:20 PM

those first borns will get that way sometimes…too stubborn to admit that we’re the best.

  8. lindsay Feb 22, 2004 4:46 PM

i’ll be the one laughing when i get the family inheritance! bwahaha…..if only.

  9. sarah Feb 22, 2004 5:40 PM

we second-in-liners can only hope that the first born will pass away, so that the inheritance comes to us…

just like when tom is dying in mansfield park(the movie), and miss crawford hopes that tom’s fortune passes on to edmund, and then edmund says something along the lines of: “your enthusiasm for my brother’s demise is shocking” and he proceeds to dump her. (i like that movie alot, if you cannot tell.)

  10. lindsay Feb 24, 2004 2:49 PM

my favorite line from that movie being:
“run mad as often as you wish, but do not faint.”

  11. sarah Feb 25, 2004 1:14 PM

    yes, that is excellent.

  12. bethany Feb 25, 2004 1:58 PM

    here you go, sarah:

Your keen adaptability to my brother’s possible demise sends a chill through my heart. A chill. Happily planning parties with his money. You shush my father like a dog at your table, and then you attack Fanny for following her own, infallible guide concerning matters of the heart. All of this leads me to believe that the person I’ve been so apt to dwell on for many months has been a figure of my own imagination, not you Ms. Crawford. I do not know you, and I’m sorry to say, I have no wish to.

(that is how i spell lindsay when my right hand is on the wrong keys…too lazy to fix.)

in response to bethany: have you finally watched that movie????!!!!??? joy of joys!
or did you cheat and look up the quote on the net?

  14. sarah Feb 25, 2004 10:51 PM

oh man, i get so excited just reading that great speech that edmund gives. he’s my hero.
“i love you, fanny. as a man loves a woman, as a hero loves a heroine, as i have never loved anyone in my whole life.”

i want to cry with joy. (i tend to get swept up in these jane austen novel-based movies. they make me want to abandon my own life and life inside a jane austen type movie. the cool dresses would be an added bonus.)

  15. rt Feb 25, 2004 10:58 PM

i haven’t seen this movie!! do you own it, sarah?

  16. dena Feb 25, 2004 11:01 PM

rt- whenever you get it from someone, invite me over! i am also out of the looop- or loop, as it is more commonly spelled.

  17. bethany Feb 26, 2004 8:25 AM

nope, i haven’t seen it, but i was perusing jane austen quotes for domain name inspiration and came across that one. :)

if there’s a mansfield park watching party, i want in on the action!

  18. bethany Feb 26, 2004 8:25 AM

sarah – “you don’t want to be in love, you want to be in love in a movie” ;)

  19. lindsay Feb 26, 2004 9:43 AM

    I own the afore-mentioned movie.
I have a feeling that after the Oscar nite has passed, we will be desiring an Austen nite.
and now, enjoy this slice of wit:
” ‘Come here, child,’ cried her father as she appeared. ‘I have sent for you on an affair of importance. I understand that Mr. Collins has made you an offer of marriage. Is it true?’ Elizabeth replied that it was. ‘Very well–and this offer of marriage you have refused?’
    ‘I have, sir.’
‘Very well. We now come to the point. Your mother insists upon your accepting it. Is it not so, Mrs. Bennet?’
‘Yes, or I will never see her again.’
‘An unhappy alternative is before you, Elizabeth. From this day you must be a stranger to one of your parents.–Your mother will never see you again if you do not marry Mr. Collins, and I will never see you again if you do.’ ”
    (Pride and Prejudice)

lindsay does own it, but her vhs has about 3-4 minutes missing from the middle of the movie.

i don’t own it yet, but i am planning on buying the dvd of it very soon, so that i can watch it every day. hehe….
it has the most beautiful dance scene ever!
well, i shall carry out my plans and buy it soon, and then i shall invite you all over to see it! yay!

bethany-” …to see if we are M.F.E.O.- made for each other.”

  21. lindsay Feb 26, 2004 2:46 PM

“the wedding was perfect–the bride having a hatred of both home and the man she was about to marry… her mother held salts in hand, expecting to be agitated–her aunt tried to cry.”

    or something like that.
