Yay for Snowday

Leaving my front door, I discovered a surprise under all the snow by the porch…

…the last, concrete step.

Truly, this is the largest snowfall I’ve had to scoop yet in my days of homeownership. The bottom step wasn’t even noticeable under the 12-18″ covering my yard. I alternated between laughter and cursing on the front pathways of my lot, and between each enormous shovelful I discovered the reason why most adults don’t go for playful romps in the snow… They scoop it!

Scooping is actually kind of fun. I have the perfect yard size for enjoyable scooping — any larger and I would definitely have bad attitude issues. It’s the wind that makes things a little unpleasant and the blowing ice that tells me, “No, you really don’t want to lay down and create a snow angel. You’ve done enough. Now go inside and enjoy a hot drink.” Ah, the prairie winds. Winter just wouldn’t be winter without frigid, blowing snow.

i just read that aloud to karen who’s sitting on her bed across the room, and we both agreed we can’t imagine you swearing. :)

it has officially been announced that all lincoln public and private schools are closed tomorrow as well…and for some odd reason, i can’t decide whether i’m excited or frustrated by that announcement.

b, i’m torn between thinking… 1) well, that’s a good thing that you (and many others) can’t imagine me swearing, and 2) damn it! why am i always the “good girl”??? ; )

i can imagine you swearing, rebecca.
does that make you feel better? (:

    thanks, dd… that means a lot. ; )

shoot. i just read a cool article online about the cool sundance film festival and found that “damn it” is really spelled “dammit” in coolspeak. i give up.

rebecca, i think dammit is the more slangish way of typing it, whilst ‘damn it’ is still the actual way. but i don’t really know. it all depends on the tone you want to strike.

i didn’t mean to imply that i thought you’d never swear….i just never have heard you, so it seemed odd to picture it in my mind. i think non-christians tend to label me the good girl and christians probably tend to think i’m a bit bad. ah well. it’s a losing battle; i might as well give myself over to decadence. :)

writing “dammit” is kind of like writing “heckuva”. it annoys me to no end. no respectable writer should ever use the word “heckuva” in print… i’ve seen it. not pretty.

sarah, i feel the you should feel excited about the announcement. does that make you feel better? i was excited as “a little girl” (said the only way mike meyers can say it) to hear the UNL was closed. no evening class! wahoo!

oscar nom’s are out. the biggest disappointment for me was not to have sean, viggo, or ian (since my boyfriend is orlando, i’m on a first name basis with all of the guys ;))nominated for best supporting actor status. shafted i tell you.

    i’m stalling… back to reading. :)

orlando must be a heckuva boyfriend!

b has officially set the bar for oscar commentary. and i’ll have fun writing my thoughts as i’m extremely excited about the academy awards this year. right now i’m at work, though, so the blogging needs to be postponed.

(wouldn’t it be cool to be paid to blog? it’d be a heckuva damn good time.)

ok, heckuva should not be said. helluva, on the other hand, is fair game.

rebecca, tell jeremy i’ll take him up on his offer. i need a place to rant about the oscars. :)
