The Christmas Spirit

candycanes

My Christmas spirit has come early this year. I don’t understand it in the slightest. I’ve always been one of those people who are slightly Scroogey before Thanksgiving, one of those who shakes her head at Christmas tunes on the radio before the pumpkin pie comes out of the oven on turkey day thinking, that just ain’t right. But this year is different.

I have a small tree up in the house. Granted, it’s getting returned to the store (too small), but I admit I like having it up. Liv opened up a box of candy canes from Nana and Papa and has already swirled one into a steaming mug of hot chocolate. I’ve already purchased several Christmas gifts and can’t wait to get the rest. And tonight as Livia’s final bedtime song (where normally I sing the shortest song I can recall), I sang O Holy Night with fervor and as much grace as I could muster. It was long, it was earnest, and I hope my audience of one enjoyed it.

December is such a joyful month for me; I’m glad it’s come a bit early in 2010.

Thanks for the permission to enjoy Christmas early if I want to. I admit to a slight giddiness when I posted the December Photo Project badge on my blog. :)
I have also thought about digging up a little cedar and taking it over to Ashley’s wee apartment for a Christmas tree.

I too am a staunch no-christmas-before-thanksgiving person, but this year I’ve been bitten by the bug too. I wonder why this is? All I know is that my plans for my last ‘free’ weekend is to hang up christmas lights and pull out the decorations.
And I’m SO excited about DPP. Lots to take pictures of this year. :)

Am I the only Grinch? :) Granted, my problem is a general anxiety about the whole season in general, and not so much the “no Christmas before Thanksgiving” thing.
Although as I said to you the other night, it is slightly less this year.
Maybe the candy-cane wonder of it all from you folks can rub off on me. (But will it stain my clothes?……)
And I’m on the fence about DPP too.
    Bah humbug. :)

If Liv and I snuggle under an afghan, can we have an encore of “Oh Holy Night”? Would love to hear you belt it out. xo Mom

Same here! Usually I hold off til after Thanksgiving, but we strung up some lights and Andrew even put on Christmas music of his own volition the other night (this from a guy who has told me in the past how he doesn’t like Christmas music).

Me too! I’ve been MAKING myself not play Christmas music before Thanksgiving. But only a few more days!

My sweet husband brought me a Poinsettia the other day and I’ve been listening to Andrew Peterson’s Behold the Lamb of God cd on a regular basis. Let the season begin.

Kerri, if your Grinchiness is less than normal, then I’d say you’re doing better this year, too. ;)
