What do you like about flying? What do you *not* like about flying? Do you talk with your seat mates? Would you rather pull out your fingernails one by one than have to talk with your seat mates? Discuss.

Oh I just love your pictures. My goal for this year is to learn how to take some that are even half as nice as yours. :)

I always smile, but try to avoid airplane conversation. I don’t know if it’s rude or not, but that’s me. :)

I have to fly if I want to see family! I seriously don’t know how many flights I have been on in my life – probably too many! I do not like the take-offs or landings, nor do I like being crammed into one little spot. And now with two little ones to add to our flying experiences, I’m sure that I will not like flying with their energized bodies cramped into a little space! :)

When I traveled as a aingle person, I enjoyed the quiet, the observations of people and cultures. Married w/o children, I enjoyed cuddling up next to my hubby during a flight, especially to look out the windows and learn about various places. The next time I fly will be with two little ones, and I will probably like seeing their observations the best!

If the other seatmate(s) seem interested in conversation, the I would converse with them. But I think that has only happened a handful of times.

    where are you going?

HATE flying. Don’t really like talking to seat mate unless I’m married to that person….
I dope myself up on Dramamine and try to sleep all flights, even in the middle of the day for a)my nervous pit of a stomach with any type of fluctuation in my stomach muscles and b) so that I don’t have to talk to anyone but husband.

I like flying because it gets me to places faster than a road trip. And to places you can’t drive to. Also, I’m not the one in charge of getting us there (I’m usually the driver on road trips). However: cramped seats, no legroom, endless security lines, stupid quart-size bag for 3 oz of liquids, sitting next to people who smell/snore, I abhor checking luggage so it’s sometimes a challenge to figure out how what to pack in a carry-on … we’re going to Ireland this summer on a family trip and to quote Jack Donaghy: “Nobody flies without medication anymore–why shouldn’t you enjoy the same luxuries as a dog?”

So yeah. Definitely popping the NyQuil for that cross-Atlantic flight.

I also don’t really talk to my seatmates beyond exchanging pleasantries–I didn’t follow that rule a couple weeks ago and ended up getting anointed (twice) by an IHOPer.

Ditto to everything that Lindsey said. Except the part about an IHOPer.
…..what is an IHOPer? Someone who enjoys eating pancakes? Were you anointed with maple syrup (less than 3 ounces, at least)?

I like to fly. I like to talk to my seatmates. I even like talking to random people in airports too. I’ve met lots of really cool people on airplanes and airports and seem to remember their stories and faces fairly well. It is weird because I never talk to strangers in real life…only while flying. The whole reason I like to fly is all the sleeping and book reading time it gives me…and looking out the window. ;)

That said, I’ve left out all the times I have slept in airports and other flying horror stories…ugg

I like that you get your camera out in the airplane. I would feel a little embarrassed to do so myself. I did sneak my camera out on a flight back from Phoenix, because the bald head in front of me was irresistible. The girls and I still howl at that picture. I’m so mean.

Love flying IF I can have a window seat, don’t have to talk to my seatmate (unless they’re a kindly elderly gentleman or lady because I seem to have more in common with their generation than mine!), the plane doesn’t have any mechanical problems and I don’t sit on the runway for an hour (happened last time), I can actually sleep on the flight if its overseas…gee. The list could go on and on!

Kathryn, thanks for the compliment! :)

SarahM, we went to San Francisco last week—more photos to come.

As to flying, I don’t mind it but I don’t exactly love it either. Flying next to Jeremy is the best case scenario. He makes me laugh, makes me comfortable, and carries the heavy bags for me.

After actively trying to AVOID conversations with folks next to me—for many many years—I’m now trying to become a little friendlier. I feel like cattle when I’ve walked the ramp both on and off and have never said a word to another human being. There’s just something wrong about that. And yet, I don’t want to engage in long conversations either—that’s why I bring a book. :)
