Nastiness

As if yellow dog pee on snow isn’t enough…

Let’s get this straight. I only watch Super Bowls for commericals and the half-time show (and the yummy snacks SB parties will inevitably produce). Right off the bat I NOT impressed by the half-time show headlined by Janet Jackson; truthfully, I think she’s kind of old and not appealing to most Americans. But after young ‘un Justin Timberlake popped her bra cup off? Well, call me shocked and grossed out.

See this CNN article if you have no idea what I’m talking about…

What cracks me up is that I totally don’t buy the line that the “wardrobe malfunction” was “unintentional”, as Timberlake’s press release states. Also bizarre is the following quote apparently taken from an MTV site: “Jaws across the country hit the carpet at exactly the same time. You know what we’re talking about … Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake and a kinky finale that rocked the Super Bowl to its core.” Rocked to it’s core by the exposure of one breast? Whatever. What are we coming to with such tackiness?

yay, rebecca: i was just ranting about the exact same topic over at the phorum.
i think it’s obvious that it was not a mistake–honestly, if the whole incident weren’t so morally disgusting, it would be simply laughable for its complete childishness. how ridiculous this is!
did they really think they’d accomplish anything from it–besides the cheap publicity for shock value?
i guess it’s good that people are outraged. but…will it amount to anything? will mtv continue to rule today’s teen culture?

so far this morning i’ve read that janet jackson says the incident was a “stunt gone awry.” which leads me to ask, how was the original stunt supposed to go down?

dd, your comment about childishness is exactly right. i’m reminded of 7th grade when, during gym class, a girl stuck an enormous maxi pad on some boy’s back. dumb, junior high antics… hopefully this whole thing will get folks thinking about the lines that should be drawn when it comes to entertainment.

well now she admits that it was no accident.
    big surprise.

Thumbs up to Michael Powell and his strong comments against violations of FCC rules. Let’s hope he backs his words with ACTION. My family didn’t see the stunt, however, we still were “exposed” because of all the post-publicity (isn’t that what she was after?!). It was a well thought out scheme and indicates the continued decline of American culture.
