Sunny Day

Today is one of those days where I could be home every minute and be absolutely content.

An early Friday night bedtime lent itself to the abrupt awakening of my body at 8:00 AM sharp. Nine and a half hours? Okay, you’re done! each muscle fiber seemed to say. Every noise heard after that point — the beeps of large machinery working on the burned-down house on the corner, the lawnmower of some insane early riser — pushed me out of bed and downstairs to an early Saturday start.

The delightful presence of sunshine and the warmer temperatures of late propelled me to a bit of spring cleaning in the kitchen. I knew the feeling wouldn’t hold out, but before my laziness set in, I cleaned out the cupboards and reorganized all the food products. While digging through old bags of almonds (throw ’em out) and old, unopened bags of dried coconut (throw ’em out; oops — rethink that. let’s keep ’em), I became Uber Housewife and did laundry and made a pot of split pea soup.

Outdoors the Nebraska wind blew but didn’t block the sheer loveliness of this, the first day of spring. The purple crocuses in the front gardens couldn’t be contained and bloomed en masse as the sun rose. The yard developed a subtle green glow and one daffodil’s bold yellow bud began a competition for Best in Show versus the gang of purple surrounding it. Once the temperatures get just a little bit warmer, I’ll be outside enjoying all the newly blossoming beauty. Until then, you can find me indoors, perhaps folding laundry or watching something new from Blockbuster.

Today, I am a homebody at heart.

Same thing happened to us on Sat morning. I don’t know when we went to bed Friday night, but we both collapsed in exhaustion. Then after rolling over several times Sat morning, refusing to open my eyes and wake up, and sure it was quite late, I finally got up glancing at the clock, and it was only 8!!!! So we made breakfast, took it back to bed, and watched Dr. Who on dvd. Not quite as industrious as you until sometime in the afternoon. We just couldn’t believe that our lazy morning of sleeping in was only until 8!!

    here’s the latest from troy:

even if the movie sucks, we’ll always have brad.

Oooh, I’m stoked. Greek mythology in the vein of LOTR and Braveheart with a good cast (www.imdb.com/title/tt0332452/). Brad Pitt as Achilles is a stretch, but I’ve always been impressed with his acting so it might work. Eric Bana as Hector is an even bigger stretch – Hector is supposed to be tough, the Trojan hero par excellence. I think someone like Hugh Jackman would be a better match. Tyler Mane (aka Sabertooth of X-Men), however, is a perfect fit for the colossal Ajax. Oh, and I like Brian Cox as Agamemnon (kingly with a rough edge), but I’ll have to wait and see about O’Toole as Priam. Finally, Sean Bean should make a great Odysseus (of course, I’m partial to the role and the actor).

i need to restudy my mythology before seeing the film. or, as it seems, have a conversation with my husband, keeper of many facts foreign to rebecca!

something about the trailer makes me want to mock brad pitt. is that just plain wrong?

just because it’s your blog, don’ make you right!

I don’t know about Brad, but Orlando is another story. It might be nice to mock him (and his flock of devotees, ahem) after his role as the abductor of Helen. Of course, if my wife is indicative of the flock, we’ll hear alot of nay-saying about Helen, and somehow Orlando will still have their hearts captured. ;)

i don’t get it? why didn’t they call me to play helen… or arwen, for that matter? darn.

no one has mentioned it, but isn’t my crocus picture awesome? obviously, i think so. most of its beauty is due to its Creator. some is due to this great guy who cropped it and brightened its hue in photoshop. and a bit of it’s due to the photographer (who had to look like a moron, literally eating dirt, in order to get the shot). okay. bragging session’s done.

hey, dirt, looking like a moron or otherwise, whatever it takes to get that perfect shot.
    it’s very cool.

thanks, sarah. (pssst… I’ll give you the 20 tomorrow night.)

ooooh. the crocuses are sad today. actually, the flowers are quite dead today. but that’s alright because the miniature daffodils are the cutest things ever.

and so it begins. over two delightful seasons of bending over to rejoice over each new bud, leaf and fruit. love it, love it, love it. i feel like my place is in the garden of eden — preferably before the fall of mankind. : )
