The TV Factor

I really wanted to write something on my blog tonight. But the TV Factor chewed up and spit out every creative idea I owned. Several lists were begun… This Girl’s Favorite Things, Things I Want to Own… But Don’t, Lifelong Goals. All for nothing. The Miss USA Pageant is on and I refuse to turn it off. One one hand we have creative writing, on the other? Pageantry. I probably watched pageants before I could write, so it’s a no-brainer which one wins this contest. The odd thing is that I can’t get creative while my television set is on! Music stimulates me. Reading makes me want to both read and write more. Even doing the dishes or laundry generates new thoughts, some that end up on the blog. But TV? Nope. It sucks up my brains and leaves me mindless, a quintessential couch potato. Some agency (APA?) recommends that children under 2 watch no television whatsoever as it can negatively affect their development (take that babysitters and parents!). Maybe that recommendation applies to people over 2 as well.

For now, I’ll post this lame commentary and head back to the pageant. Miss Missouri is from Florissant. Three years in St. Louis demand I root for her.

strangely enough, i too have always been fascinated by pageants, as much as i am tempted to mock them mercilessly.
i think i enjoy guessing which person will win. perhaps that also explains my obsession with reality shows.

For some reason, I doubt most people watch these shows for intelligent discourse on current issues… unless that discourse involves attractive women walking around in skimpy swimsu… wait a second… why wasn’t I watching?!?!?

ha ha! the swimsuits actually gross me out — their hip bones all jut out dramatically. ew. yeah, no intelligent discourse here, but they didn’t even have to show a talent or discuss their platform. hmmm. i suspect the donald is behind all this stupidity and beauty.

I think “The Donald” is like the funniest nickname EVER. I’ve heard it about a hundred times (yes, I watch too much television, esp. Regis and Kelly while I’m getting ready at 9 am) but it never fails to elicit a giggle.

ya’ll crack me up. noon, you’re right about “the noo” — i think mom calls you that. come to think of it, sometimes charity says “the jer.” but “the dena” sounds magnificent! : )

  12. charity Apr 14, 2004 12:51 PM

that is true… i do sometimes say “the jer”. i never really thought about it till now. huh…

Ha, thanks for the laugh, Sarah. I thoroughly enjoyed that.
