Get the Body in Motion

Jeremy and I have been enjoying the music from the VW Touareg commercial, the one where a couple drives up in the mountains and take pictures for an elderly woman. Something about that music is very comforting and peaceful—and now makes me think of mountains. Anyhow, a little Googling revealed the song is Ariel Ramirez by Richard Buckner. Now my quandry is whether I should download just this one song from iTunes or whether I bite the bullet and get the whole album (either through iTunes or Amazon). What do y’all think?

This is not the first commerical-music search I’ve done. My first was for Wiseguys’ “Start the Commotion” which showed up on some car commercial. Their album, The Antidote is a lot of fun and is known to induce Jazzercise-level heart rates if used properly.

wow, what a coincidence…just last night, while watching gilmore girls at the karen-jenny-caitlin-elissa duplex, we were commenting on how much we enjoyed that song.
this coincidence is so distressing, i may have to pay a visit to my local existential detectives…

lindsay. what’s the deal with the gilmore girls? i’m not going to knock your show because i’ve never watched a full episode, but whenever i see commercials on the WB…i don’t know…it seems rather 7th heaven-ish. i watched every episode of summerland this summer, so i am defenseless. (i’m a laguna beach viewer as well.) actually, i’m a total sucker for MTV’s programming (except TRL), despite my old age.

for the record, rebecca r.(l?) tredway has watched more hours of MTV than anyone i know – bar none.

Andrew – I have various levels of defense for the show itself, but since you’ve never actually seen it, that would be pointless. I will just say that the people who do the commercials at the WB suck. A lot. They’re notorious for drawing out one single moment of an episode and structuring an entire advertisement around it, making the episode appear to be about some Huge Dramatic Event, when in fact the thing in the commercial is only perhaps mentioned in passing in the episode. Very tricksy.

I like the song “Blue and Wonder” on Buckner’s “Bloomed” album. Megan put that on a mix for me once, but I’ve never listened to a whole album.

i love start the commotion by the wiseguys. it’s such a fun dancing song…and yes, i was watching gilmore girls last night and saw the commercial with the old woman and the couple, and commented to my friend about really liking the song they used…i agree with lindsay, what a coincidence indeed that you should write about it the very next day!

I will forever connect “Start the Commotion” with Zoolander. Especially because it’s the first song on the soundtrack (that I’ve listened to, oh, maybe way too many times).

Bethany, you are so very articulate. That is exactly what is wrong with ads on the WB, and you pinpointed it with accuracy and style. *pouts* I wish I could write like you.

Yes, there is a reason why I don’t have extended cable… MTV would suck the life out of me. Of course, WB may do that as well. I actually caught GG last night — and then watched One Tree Hill, too. Terrible show but I just can’t turn away because I have a very sad, very large passion for ridiculous high school shows.

B, I agree with Anne on your ability to pinpoint a situation precisely with a few choice words! I love your points made on P&P on the Inklers site. : )
