Bec’s Boring Blog

Posted on Aug 26, 2007 at 10:43 PM in Uncategorized

Sorry, guys. This blog is getting so lam-o. And there’s nothing I really feel like doing about it right now.

I’m facing down a tonsillectomy this week and I am very ready to get it over with. Enough thinking about a painful recovery (as everyone seems to be telling me, adults deal with tonsillectomies much worse than children) and enough taking antibiotics to attempt to clear out the strep infections. Out, out damn tonsils! (Thanks, Shakespeare, for that line. Sorry to misquote you–it’s a cultural thing.)

To make an attempt toward mildly-interesting rather than all-out-boring, I leave you with a few questions…

Three year olds: Annoying or charming?
Tea: Iced or hot?
Pixar: Monsters, Inc or The Incredibles?
Summer: Take it or leave it?
The USA: East Coast or West Coast?
Sports: Social event or serious fan?
Email: Gmail or Yahoo?
Tonsils: In or out?
Latenight Blogging: Procrastination or honest work?

There are some right and wrong answers here, people. (Of course MY three year old is charming… and brilliant… and radiantly beautiful… and only a teensy bit on the annoying side.) Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Three year olds: Totally adorable… but it’s easy for me to say since I don’t live with one 24/7.

    Tea: No, thank you.

    Pixar: Monsters, Inc.

    Summer: Heat makes me grumpy.

The USA: Pacific Northwest is sounding good right now… but it’s so far away from everything else.

Sports: Umm… I kind of like the Olympics. And badminton is fun.

Email: Gmail is treating me well so far.

Tonsils: Isn’t there some loophole where you get ice cream if your tonsils have to come out?

Latenight Blogging: People should do it more often so I have stuff to read during my blogroll.

Three year olds: Both annoying and charming!
    Tea: SWEET!
    Pixar: Everything they’ve ever made
Summer: Take the break, leave the heat
    The USA: East Coast!
    Sports: Depends on the sport…
    Email: Gmail!
    Tonsils: Mine are in…
Latenight Blogging: It’s a great service to society

    I’ll be praying for you!

Three year olds: Um both, though I tend to only see the charming side.

    Tea: Hot

    Pixar: The Incredibles

Summer: Leave it… far, far behind. Bring on the sleet and snow, I say!

    The USA: West coast

Sports: Social event… when I’m feeling social, that is.

    Email: Gmail

    Tonsils: Um, out.

    Latenight Blogging: Honest work

RE Tonsillectomy: Did you hear that nine out of every ten adults who have this incredibly invasive surgery die of colorectal cancer in six months? True story!

    Quiz:

Three year olds: If they’re yours, incredible. If they’re your relations, cute and tolerable. If you don’t know them, a menace to society.

    Tea: Both!

Pixar: Love Monsters, Inc. but The Incredibles is utterly amazing. What great screenwriters!

Summer: The season is wonderful. The institution of summer as a period of vacation for school-age children and teachers is just a dreamed-about memory.

The USA: Both are nice to visit. I prefer the Midwest. Okay, fine, the East Coast seems to have a little more of the history I prefer. East Coast. Bah! Fine, are you happy now? [Adam’s West Coast privileges were removed following this post]

Sports: Social event or serious fan? YES.

Email: BOTH! I mean, I’ve cut down to [counts] 6 email accounts. I used to have 10.

Tonsils: In, of course. My mother always used to say if your body wasn’t whole on Earth it wouldn’t be whole in Heaven. I know someone who’s gonna be missin’ her tonsils for a LONG time. [laughs and points]

Late-night Blogging: I guess that depends on your work schedule and free time! If you’re up and blogging, so be it! Professional bloggers do try to keep work hours for their writing, but if your schedule is at night, that’s great, too. Regardless I always like seeing new posts!

    Three year olds: Charming
Tea: Iced in the summer, hot in the winter
    Pixar: The Incredibles
    Summer: LEAVE IT!!!!
    The USA: East Coast
    Sports: BOTH
    Email: Gmail
    Tonsils: OUT
    Latenight Blogging: Insomnia :)

Three year olds: Yours is charming. Others can be less charming. I’m sure mine will be a model of decorum and good manners. Ha.
    Tea: Sweet and iced, y’all.
Pixar: All of the above, and Toy Story and Ratatouille.
Summer: Please, please leave it. I am so over it. I hate it with a passion. Rinse and repeat.
The USA: East coast. I know more people there.
Sports: What are these “sports” you speak of? I’m trying to block out of my mind the fact that football season starts soon, bringing the NFL into my home on a regular basis via big screen TV. Dan’s also plotting how he’s going to prop the baby up on his chest and brainwash her into enjoying Texas A&M football. That might be cute.
Email: Anything but hotmail. I can never really get rid of my address there because everyone has it, but I want a gmail account badly.
    Tonsils: In.
    Latenight Blogging: Honest work.

I’m praying for you with the tonsils. I’m sorry you have to get them taken out, but I hope it will be the end to all the strep. Do you at least get to eat lots of ice cream when you have your tonsils out as an adult?

  7. Bethany Aug 27, 2007 10:08 AM

Three year olds: Depends on the three year old, but I’d lean toward charming (mostly)
    Tea: Hot, usually.
Pixar: I’ve only seen The Incredibles once, so I’m not sure.
Summer: At this point, I’m ready for cool weather, but if it’s a choice between winter and summer, I’ll take summer.
The USA: Not having much experience with either, I’ll guess West
Sports: Social event, except Nebraska football
    Email: Gmail for sure
Tonsils: In (I mean, mine are in, not that I have a preference as to the state of other people’s)
Latenight Blogging: Procrastination AND honest work

  8. Lindsey Aug 27, 2007 10:23 AM

Three year olds: I’ve met both kinds. But most are usually charming.
Tea: Hot. If it has to be iced, it better be sweet tea.
Pixar: Like Bethany, I’ve only seen The Incredibles once, so I don’t know.
Summer: I was ready for it to leave on June 12th.
USA: East Coast in the fall, West Coast all other times
Sports: Depends on the sport for me … but I’m never a die-hard fan in any case.
    Email: always Gmail–it’s so organized!
Tonsils: out! I had mine out as a 10 year old and apparently woke up in recovery and informed the nurses that my throat “feels like hell.” How embarrassing. I trust you’ll be a little less blunt than I was.
Late Night Blogging: Well, seeing as the updating of my blog has been scarce and not very readworthy even at that, I agree with Bethany.

  9. Renae Aug 27, 2007 12:02 PM

    Three-year-olds: Charming
    Tea: Iced
    Pixar: The Incredibles
    Summer: LEAVE IT!!!
USA: West Coast (Seattle here we come!)
Sports: If I’m watching or attending at all, serious fan; socialize elsewhere
    Email: Gmail
Tonsils: Mine are in; yours, dear, need to come out!
    Late night blogging: Huh?

  10. Floreksa Aug 27, 2007 12:57 PM

    Three year olds: Charming
    Tea: both, anytime
    Pixar: The Incredibles
    Summer: Take it! Embrace it!
The USA: have spent little time on either, but have leaning toward the West/Northwest…have been told to move to portland
    Sports: social event
Email: hotmail…i’d choose gmail if i could have my own name as my address (seriously, how many people are there with my name?!?)
    Tonsils: out, long ago
    Latenight Blogging: …

  12. Jamie Aug 27, 2007 4:58 PM

Three year olds: Some of both, especially (probably) if you are the parent.
    Tea: Iced
    Pixar: The Incredibles!!!
Summer: I’m with Renae — LEAVE IT! COME, FALL (and milder weather), COME!!!
The USA: East (I’ve only been to the West coast, but I have a fascination with the East and its history. I want to go to Boston.)
Sports: total social event. I go for the food.
    Email: Gmail
Tonsils: I suppose this depends on the relationship between you and your tonsils
Latenight Blogging: Total HONEST work!! If its the middle-of-the-day, you should be doing something else. If it’s late-night, the only other option is sleep! And who procrastinates for sleep?? (not I!)

  13. Jeremy Aug 27, 2007 5:12 PM

    Three-year olds: Down-right annoying, with one exception—usually.
Tea: Hot, with cream and sugar.
    Pixar: The Incredibles.
Summer: Love it (minus the hayfever).
The USA: West Coast—yuck! East Coast—not so yuck.
    Sports: I bleed Husker red.
    Email: Yahoo!
(Gmail’s UI/UX blows to high heaven, so I forward or POP it.)
Tonsils: Dead and buried in ’75.
    Latenight blogging: Go for it.

  14. Sarah B. Aug 27, 2007 10:02 PM

Can you believe I’m leaving a comment?? I usually have been taking the safe road and bypassing comments, though I read your blog religiously. But surveys are always so inviting! Here goes:

3 year olds: the 1st time they asked the question–so charming. the 256th time they asked the question–starts to get annoying!

Tea: Hot, only, please. Unfortunately, I was raised with that awful, powdered iced tea mix that my parents drank. That kinda soured me on iced tea forever. I know that’s not “real” iced tea, but I just have issues that have permanently scarred me.

Summer: St. Louis summers — Leave ’em!

The USA: I take a vacation to just about anywhere right now!

Sports: Mostly social, though I have truly become a Cards fan, by way of marriage that is.

E-mail: Neither, I have excite. Should I switch?

Tonsils: Out 7 years ago, sorry again, Becca! I truly feel for you!

Latenight blogging: For me, it’s usually procrastination.

  15. Jeannette Aug 27, 2007 10:11 PM

Ooh!Ooh! I love games! (which Pixar movie is that line from?)

Three year olds: I’ll let you know this time next year when I have one.
    Tea: hot
    Pixar: The Incredibles
    Summer: leave it
    The USA: East Coast
Sports: Social event or serious fan? NEITHER! what are sports?
    Email: Gmail
    Tonsils: In
Latenight Blogging: oh, definitely without a doubt honest work.
