Pleasant Aromas

Today Monica asked about favorite smells. So I stopped and tried to think of smells I actually enjoy (versus the very non-enjoyable ones all moms must face). I took a moment and thought of the different places my family has lived, the different highlights of the four seasons, the warm fuzzy moments I’ve experienced.

So tell me, what are your favorite smells?

A good, expensive apple cinnamon candle. I’ve tried out the cheap ones, but they smell cheap, too. You gotta be a big spender to win with these candles.. but I love ’em.

A campfire or a wood fire in a fireplace, lilacs, a baby’s hair right after a bath, and garlic sauteeing in olive oil. Hmmm…now I must make a plan for all of these smells to coverge in my house all at once!!

Ginger, hands down. Quite possibly my favorite smell ever.

Runners-up being fresh laundry, that fresh, slightly woody smell after it rains, and something a little less whimsical: basil.

Ooh, lots of good ones. I’d especially second the rain smell and lilacs. Smells I love: coffee and bacon early in the morning; a real Christmas tree; old books; roasting turkey; Earl Grey tea (especially the used tea bags); baked peaches.

Me: Fresh laundry. baking cookies. cinnamon. coffee.

My husband loves: grapefruit and what you smell like after you’ve been swimming in a pool. Seriously. I’ve often joked that I should create a perfume that combines these two aromas as it would drive him crazy. :)

I love the smell of fall, an actual fall not the Arizona one I live in. Autumn has always been my favorite season, and it just isn’t the same here. I long to go outside and smell someone else’s fire comming from the chimney, and all the other warm and fuzzy smells that accompany autumn. Oh and I miss the trees changing, it is just not practical to keep driving to Flagstaff to see the Aspens change. :) But back to smells, Lilac will forever remind me of my mom, Titanic pink roses smell amazing, sandalwood incense is great, Tomatoes straight from the garden smell delicious, (people look at me strange when I smell the tomatoes before I buy them at the market) but my all time favorite smell is Orange Blossoms. Every spring I drive with my windows down taking in that amazing smell that overwhelms Gilbert. Very good topic Rebecca, smell is one of my favorite senses. :)

Buttercream frosting. And I just happened to find a buttercream candle in the Yankee Candle store!
Also love vanilla. The smell of roses. My husband’s aftershave. The ‘smell’ of fall in the air – the crisp breeze mingled with the scattering leaves.

Chelsea, I’m glad you love this topic because I do, too. It’s almost therapeutic to stop and think about what smells you enjoy. Thanks to all the rest of you for commenting as well!

Here are a few of my favorite things, er, smells…

-Baby Magic wash on my baby’s head
