My birthday is tomorrow, but yesterday I received a stellar present: Canon Rebel XS. It is so cool, so fabulous, a really awesome birthday gift from Jeremy. (Thank you, thank you, thank you!!) I’ll continue to use my Powershot S1 IS for brief outings with Livia and for shooting short movies. But oh my goodness, I’m already having loads of fun with the dSLR. I have a lot to learn about photography… and I’m certain the world will see it all in action here on the Prairie Box.

**About my Powershot, which didn’t really die but was only mostly dead (ah, what would we do without the Princess Bride? Anybody want a peanut?). While checking out cameras at a local shop, I was informed that Canon would repair my camera for free—no warranty needed. So I packed up my camera with a repair slip, paid a small fee for insurance coverage with USPS, and sent it off to see what happened. Within eight days, my camera was returned with a new optical something-or-other (see how much I have to learn) and a repaired lens. It also came back with a wonky zoom but at least I can use the camera again. Thank you, Canon!

Nice! I used to have the film version of this camera. I love Canon. You’ll have to let me play with it when I see you! Pretty please?

Love that movie–I was going to put my favorite line but noticed that Melissa, above in the comments, quoted it already. That’s our favorite.

Have a happy birthday! What a wonderful camera.

awesome–love Canons! My family has a Canon Rebel and a mini (can’t remember the exact name of that one) if we want to use it–but it is mostly for their business–they are SWEET cameras!!

    Great Camera!
Hey, I just joined the fun…is itpossible to get a link for my side bar with the DPP logo?

I think my little Canon Powershot is feeling a little inferior next to your new, mighty, Canon Rebel in the DPP now. :) Still, I don’t take nearly as good of pictures as you do, so this is a great present! Can’t wait to see what great things come of it. Happy Birthday!

    Woohoo! Congrats!

I got my Canon Rebel XT a couple of years ago and I still love that baby. That, and my nifty fifty (50mm f/1.8).

You are going to rock that new camera. :)

We broke (by we, I mean I didn’t zip the camera case closed, camera fell out and now it doesn’t turn on) our Canon while on vacation this past weekend. I was wondering what steps you took to get it fixed? PLEASE let me know! I am kicking myself for dropping it and I hate not having a camera on hand!

Hi Meg. I took my camera to a camera shop in town where one of the employees filled out a Canon fix-it form. I then mailed the camera and form to Canon’s headquarters and received my restored equipment about eight days later.

Unfortunately, the camera came back to me with a new problem. And I recently discovered more issues (namely, I can’t focus while taking pictures, though the end products are in perfect focus).

    Hope this helps!
