All Thumbs

Two thumbs up to the Walgreens pharmacists at 17th and South. God bless these guys (and gals) who are so consistent and compassionate in providing for my diabetic needs. They are so stinkin’ cool. While the pharmacy techs are running around behind the counter, sometimes without a clue as to how to make things work, the pharmacists decisively serve their customers, sometimes breaking “the rules” to make things work. Kudos to them.

One and a half thumbs to the fun flick Identity. Starring my most beloved actor John Cusak, the film is the scariest thing I’ve seen in some time. I only say this because the freaky scenes had me scrunched down on the couch, Jeremy’s arm clutched by both hands, with my elbow shielding my eyes (kind of). I can’t remember being in that non-breathing, every-muscle-taut position since Sixth Sense. It doesn’t receive two thumbs for one reason… But I won’t ruin the movie for ya by explaining it.

Finally, two thumbs down to The Dish, a restaurant in downtown Lincoln. This place has plenty of potential, but reminds me of a pauper in prince’s clothing. Our food came out greasy and subpar, and overpriced. Yikes. The ole wallet sure took a beating on that one. Note to self: don’t try to eat at Misty’s downtown on a weekend, ever. The wait there was 2 hours, thus redirecting us to The Dish. Won’t make that mistake again… : /

That’s why you should just go to the Green Gateau. Not that I have anything to do with the place…
    (:

i thought identity was really good until the ending, which was such a cop-out. boo to the ending. hurrah for the rest.

    agreed, b.

oh, and that restaurant may be called “Dish” not THE Dish. who knows? just don’t get too excited if you chose to eat there.

let me also make a movie note. ‘once upon a time in mexico’ sucks. ‘charlie’s angels: full throttle’ was morally and intellectually more beneficial than ‘mexico’, notwithstanding the fact that i was bored to tears and embarrassed by the sheer terribleness of the acting (yes, johnny depp does suck because of the script), screenwriting, pacing, set design (are we in mexico or laredo, tx) and overall crapiness set before me. more than once, my three friends commented, “what is this? is it a comedy? maybe some kind of inside joke towards the previous films!” the worst part remains that i was the one who vouched for the stinkin’ thing and i’m $7.50 short. i encourage everyone to see the movie, however, because seeing is believing — by the end of the movie you will have played thumb war with your seat neighbor about a bazillion times and played every game on your cell phone. i don’t know much, but i know what sucks…

that’s a bummer, andrew. it looks kind of good! and ‘charlie’s angels: full throttle’ looks like crap. but hey, that’s just my opinion. ; )

note: action movie + johnny depp as a protagonist … need i say more? skip it – i did!

note: “charlie’s angels: full throttle” B-O-R-I-N-G… did they even try to write a script or just hit the bong, scrap up some words, and send it in?

note: “american wedding” is funny; if you liked the first two, it’s even better cuz it’s got a few sweet moments. the dynamics are different, namely, lack of teen angst.

note: **holes** is still one of the best movies i’ve ever seen, right behind “while you were sleeping” “sixth sense” “unbreakable” “the matrix” “the maltese falcon” and “the usual suspects”

note: “the league of extraordinary gentleman” is better at the cheap seats, but fun. “pirates of the caribbean: the curse of the black pearl” is worth full bill, but you get your money’s worth for $1.50

    ciao!

‘holes’ comes out soon on dvd — yay! i’m looking forward to seeing it per your recommendation, adam.
