deep within the mind of a crazie

going to the mall
trying to look cute
competing with
…perfect teeny t-shirt and grunge jeans
…spiffy, fitted top and adorable khakis
…just the right pair of footwear to match the rest of the outfit

seeing others, comparing myself
hating it each time i do

frumpy and lumpy
hair all a’frizz
freckled and natural
not like showbiz
the real world is me
not perfection to a ‘t’

why care to match ‘glamour’
and other magazines
who cater to the beautiful
and wealthy-parented teens
the rest of us must be content
to wear the styles of yesteryear.
but we’re not, let’s face it
we’re so into ourselves
we’ve got to be wearing
clothes off gap’s shelves

but who sets the standard?
that’s what i ponder
as through westfield-shopping-town’s halls i wander.
wearing my shopko ensemble
not very hip
the semi-cute top
the jeans with a rip

alright! that’s it!
i’m ready to throw
fashion in the garbage
with all my silly wants and woes
who the heck cares
what clothes that i wear?

S-I-G-H

me — that’s where
i get all the pressure
me — that’s the who
that ignores the treasure
that lies within,
seeing the outside
and ignoring the beauty
that i tell everyone else they have.

practice what you preach.
buy what you can afford.
and most importantly,
ignore yourself.

ummm… maybe I shouldn’t have suggested going to the Express fall sale. :/

    ;)

oh man, i struck out big time at the mall. seriously, pants these days are really not made for tall girls with round bootys and small waists!!

Oh I hear ya. Jeans are my worst nightmare. A size 6 is now actually a size 4, a size four is a size 2 and so on. However, have you noticed that the sales racks are always packed full of size 0’s, 1’s, and 2’s that no one has purchased? This speaks to me loud and clear: “you are average”, it says. But even so, I’m a complete girl about it and walk away depressed. “Sigh” is right.

    Chocolate anyone?

i totally empathize. i think that every girl does – even the teeny tiny beautiful little ones. well, ok, maybe not them. but the rest of us all do. :)

have you done any more “tucking in” of the belly lately, b?
i’ll never forget the infamous moment while we were watching “you’ve got mail.”
    (:

not lately…but thanks for sharing that information with the entire world. ;)

i’m actually wondering how one “tucks in” one’s belly. care to share more, b? ; )

karen, the zion office went to a chinese buffet monday… i only wanted to eat plates of crab rangoon, but felt a little embarrassed about being such a fried food fanatic. so i threw in a few green beans and rice to balance it out. isn’t it nice that this makes me think of you?

my dad was commenting today about the buffet. he was mentioning how they have a ton of american food at the chinese buffet–including jello, cake, hamburger, etc.
i guess that stuff is for the picky little kids who don’t like chinese cuisine–but it still kind of defeats the whole purpose, don’t you think?

something about the american food (at a chinese buffet)really grosses me out. ewwwwww…

  10. bethany Oct 10, 2003 4:06 PM

hey, don’t knock the american food at the chinese buffet – it’s the only way we can coax 5/9 of my family into eating there and allowing the other 4 of us to enjoy the yummy chinese food.

oh, i totally believe it’s great for kids. actually, i don’t enjoy chinese all that much… i’m the one person in this universe, apparently, who doesn’t like rice. (yet, with indian food it’s alright. hmmm…)

I’m secure enough in myself that I can appreciate when people associate me with fried food.
    Mmmm. Crab rangoon.

And by the way…I’ve had the phrase “frumpy and lumpy” running through my head all day today.

  14. rebecca Oct 16, 2003 3:37 PM

    hee, hee.

i truly hate those time when i feel frumpy and lumpy. but, i’m amazed at the power an application of lipstick and a spritz of hairspray can hold. a little sprucing up usually cures me of that yucko feeling.
